
Villasuso's Homer Lifts Mariners Past Twins

Pulaski, VA (August 8, 2011) - The Pulaski Mariners ended their home stand with the Elizabethton Twins on a high note Monday night at Historic Calfee Park. Luke Taylor started the game on the hill for the Mariners and kept the Twins at bay all night, as the Mariners won the game 6-3.
The Mariners opened the scoring in the bottom of the third, scoring on a ground ball by Alfredo Morales that allowed Daniel Paolini to score.
The Twins answered in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by Mateo Hejma that scored Rory Rhodes to tie the game at one a piece.
The Mariners blew the game open in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring three times to take the lead 4-1. The dagger for the Twins came in the sixth inning on a two run homerun by David Villasuso. He exploded on a ball that carried over the over the Budweiser sign in left center to give extend the Mariners lead to 6-1. The Twins would score on run in both the seventh and the ninth innings, but it would prove too little too late, as the Mariners won the game at home by the score of 6-3.
Luke Taylor (2-1) got the win for the Mariners throwing five innings, allowing only one run on five hits, while striking out four. Markus Limon was hit with the loss for the Twins.
Daniel Paolini went 3-4 with a run and an RBI, while David Villasuso went 2-2 with a hit-by-pitch, homerun, two runs scored, and two RBI.
The Mariners will return home Friday night to take on the Bluefield Blue Jays. Gates will open at 6:00 p.m., with the 1st pitch being scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
