
Vicari claims national honors

Michigan State University freshman goaltender Dominic Vicari was named USCHO / Itech Division I Defensive Player of the Week yesterday after posting back-to-back shutouts against Nebraska-Omaha last weekend.
A former USHL star with River City, Vicari pushed the Spartans toward the top of the CCHA -- and the NCAA tournament -- with 56 saves on 56 shots.
The shutouts were his fifth and sixth of the season, tops among all NCAA Division I goaltenders. His 1.87 goals-against average and .933 conference saves percentage leads the CCHA.
Vicari was the USHL's Goaltender of the Year last season, his second with the Lancers. His USHL career totals included 53 victories, 13 shutouts and a 1.91 goals-against average.

--- University of Wisconsin freshman Ross Carlson has made an immediate impact since joining the Badgers at midseason. The Minnesota native opened his college career at a pointper- game pace, registering five goals and nine assists in 14 games.
Carlson was a three-year veteran of the USHL, having skated with Des Moines and Waterloo. In 155 USHL games, the 6-foot forward tallied 103 points (43 G, 60 A).
--- InsideCollegeHockey.com has tabbed North Dakota's Brandon Bochenski as the favorite for 2004 Hobey Baker honors. The Fighting Sioux junior is the WCHA's leading scorer overall with 23 goals and 47 points in 31 games. Bochenski was selected First Team All-USHL in 2000-01, leading the Lincoln Stars and the league with 47 goals in 55 games played.
--- University of Minnesota defenseman Keith Ballard currently leads the nation in points-pergame by a defenseman with a 1.07 average.
Ballard was selected First Team All-USHL in 2000-01 when he led the Omaha Lancers to a Junior âA' national championship.
--- Nebraska-Omaha forward Scott Parse ranks third nationally in freshman scoring with 30 points (13 G, 17 A) in 32 games.
Parse was selected to the USHL's All-Rookie Team last season after racking up 44 points (21 G, 23 A) in 48 games with the Tri-City Storm.
--- Lake Superior State freshman goaltender Jeff Jakaitis ranks fourth nationally with a .930 saves percentage.
Jakaitis was a two-year standout with Waterloo, posting a .906 career saves percentage. Vicari
