Kansas City Outlaws News Release
The first time the Kansas City Outlaws played the Fort Wayne Komets, the Outlaws dominated, winning 7-4 in Fort Wayne back on November 6th. Since then, the Komets had won 4 straight against Kansas City coming into tonight's match.
Fresh off a tough victory against a tough Rockford team last Sunday at Kemper Arena, the Outlaws showed confidence and poise agains the division leading Komets. Kansas City's leading scorer, Smokin' Joe Seroski, started scoring in the first period with a power play goal at 8:02. That tally was Seroski's 34th of the year. Jason Ruff and Briane Thompson picked up the assists. Big George Davis scored 2 minutes later to make the lead 2-0 in favor of Kansas City. Davis was assisted by Jami Yoder and newly acquired defenseman Paul McBrien.
Veteran scorer Jay Murphy extended the Outlaw lead to 3 with his even strength goal just 2:08 into the second period (Ruff, Robert Machalek).
Maxime the Dream Gingras worked miracles in goal tonight for Kansas City. Fort Wayne couldn't slip the puck past Max until 4:10 of the second period, when Tom Nemeth finally broke the seal for Fort Wayne (Chris Grenville, Dustin Virag).
Jay Murphy struck back with his second goal of the second period, scoring from Ruff and Mike Murry with just 3:10 to play in the frame, and the second intermission arrived with the Outlaws on top, 4-1.
The Komets are probably the best team in the UHL, and showed why in the third period. Goals by P. C. Drouin at 5:18 (Shane Kenny, Grenville) and Chris Grenville at 15:12 (Andy Townsend, Tom Nelson) pulled Fort Wayne back into contention, but in the end Maxime Gingras simply refused to lose. The Outlaws held on to win, 4-3.
Gingras kicked aside 53 of 56 shots tonight. His save percentage is now a stellar .913 for the season... With his 3-point night, Jason Ruff pulls to within a goal of Joe Seroski for the team point scoring lead. Seroski's goal tonight gives him 56 points (34 G, 22 A), just a step ahead of Ruffer's 55 (21 G, 34 A)... Jay Murphy's 2 goal performance adds up to 32 points in 27 games since becoming an Outlaw (13 G, 19 A).
The Outlaws will take Saturday off before a 3:00 pm Sunday showdown at Quad City. Catch all the action as it happens on 1340 KCKN or live on the web.
