Veteran Defenseman Bauman Joins Killer Bees

HIDALGO, TEXAS --- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League (CHL) today announced that the team has signed veteran defenseman Stacey Bauman (BAH-man) to the lineup for the 2009-10 season. Bauman enters his seventh pro season and joins the Killer Bees after playing the last two seasons with the Oklahoma City Blazers.

Bauman, who turns 30 on December 17, is a 6-foot-1, 192-pound Kitchener, Ontario, native. He has played in 342 pro games with the Greenville Grrrowl (ECHL), Lubbock Cotton Kings (CHL) and Oklahoma City Blazers (CHL). His totals include 113 points (23-90-113) and 378 PIM. Last season he finished second among Blazers defenseman with 30 points (5-25-30). Bauman collected 11 of his points (2-9-11) via the power play while one of his five goals was a game-winner.

"I'm excited about coming to an organization that has a commitment to winning," Bauman said. "The way Coach Brooks recruited me pushed RGV to the top of my list. I really feel like he wants me there and I agree with his philosophy on the game. He's putting together a team that I'm excited about."

Bauman has made a commitment to off-the-ice community endeavors and was honored with the CHL's 2007-08 Man of the Year Award. The award is presented annually ‘to the Central Hockey League player adjudged to have best exemplified strong leadership qualities on and off the ice, while making significant and noteworthy humanitarian contributions to his community.'

As a member of the Blazers, Bauman stayed busy donating his time and resources to many youth causes including working with Life Church's children's ministries and assisting with Oklahoma City Youth Hockey "Kids-First". When time allowed, Bauman conducted chapel services for the Oklahoma University men's hockey team. On an international level, Stacey is a major donor and supporter of Love 146 (www.love146.org), a registered public charity founded in 2002 working towards the abolition of child sex trafficking and exploitation through prevention and aftercare.

Prior to embarking on his pro career, Bauman played four seasons of Div. 1 college hockey at Yale University. He played in 115 games for the Bulldogs from 1999-2003 and posted 25 points (3-22-25) and 107 PIM.

"Stacey is a top-tier defenseman in our league and a tremendous leader on and off the ice," Killer Bees Head Coach Chris Brooks said. "Having a player like Stacey in our locker room will be invaluable to our team. The reason I recruited him so hard was not only about his abilities, but his habits and professional approach to both hockey and life."
