Veronica Perez and Mexico Face England Today at 4 p.m. ET in the FIFA Women's World Cup 2015

Veronica Perez and Mexico face England today at 4 p.m. ET - with both teams knowing that a loss would severely dent their chances of advancing to the knockout stages of the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada.

Perez appeared to have set Mexico on course to their first-ever victory at the World Cup on Tuesday when she scored in the 36th minute of the match on a curving shot from near the corner flag.

Colombia goalkeeper Stefany Castano could only parry the curling effort onto the underside of the crossbar before goal-line technology confirmed the ball game down past the goal line.

Perez was one of two NWSL players, along with Sky Blue FC forward Monica Ocampo, who received starting nods from coach Leonardo Cuellar.

The goal for Perez was the ninth in 76 international games for the 27-year-old Washington Spirit midfielder.

Mexico has now gone its first seven games at the World Cup without registering a victory, but the draw Tuesday was their third in the last four games at this level for El Tri. Mexico's all-time record at the World Cup now stands at 0-4-3.

If Mexico are indeed to earn their first victory at the tournament on Saturday, they will have to do so versus an England side with their backs against the wall following a 1-0 loss Tuesday to France.

Portland Thorns FC forward Jodie Taylor was the only current NWSL player on the roster for either team and was an unused substitute for England. The 29-year-old has four goals in eight international appearances for the Lionesses.

Former NWSL player Lianne Sanderson, who earned a place on the 2013 NWSL Second XI as a member of the Boston Breakers, was also left on the bench by England coach Mark Sampson.
