TALE OF THE TAPE
When Lehigh Valley has the ball: Lehigh Valley scored 50 points in their opening night victory on the road at Erie. QB Shane McSweeney accounted for six of histeam's seven touchdowns passing for three and running for another three. All three passing touchdowns went to WR Brandon Renford. Former Venom player Mack Ogletree is a dangerous return man as well as a threat in the backfield.
In their opener, the Venom defense gave up 27 first half points to Alabama. They then bowed their backs only giving up seven total in the second half. DB Corry Stewart (Father Ryan High School) led the unit with 7.5 tackles and an interception. DB Jaime Graham (Vanderbilt/ Whites Creek High School) played well and had a pick taken well due to a penalty. The defensive line didn't have a sack so they will have to bring more pressure for Nashville to be successful.
When Nashville has the ball: QB Charles McCullum passed for 221 yards and two touchdowns versus Alabama. He did throw two interceptions, committed a key fumble and was the victim of four dropped passes. WR George Murray was spectacular catching eight ball for 132 yards and a touchdown. WR Zach Ducker (Cumberland University) scored his team's first two touchdowns in his debut.
Lehigh Valley added 2014 All-PIFL performer Amara Kamara to an already stingy defense.DE/LB Kamara didn't disappoint in his Steelhawk debut recording four tackles, two sacks and two fumble recoveries. Fellow DE/LB Larry Ford was named the PIFL Player of the Week as he matched Kamara's four tackle, two sack performance but added a late strip to clinch the victory. LB Chinny Ako-Agugua recorded a pick six.
Intangibles: For the second week in a row, Nashville will welcome a team with something to prove. Last season's championship game was closer than the score indicated. Ogletree will be looking to have a good showing in his return. The Venom also have something to prove. Losing last week at home has put them in an early must win situation. Two home losses would be a difficult hole to climb out of.
