March 3, 2011 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Amarillo Venom News Release

Amarillo, TX 3/3/11 - The quarterback battle has been reopened as the Amarillo Venom signed veteran quarterback Derek Rasmussen this week.

Rasmussen will compete against X'Zavier Bloodsaw, who started against the Colorado Ice in week one, for the starting quarterback position. Rasmussen played his collegiate ball at Missouri State University and has played arena football for the Tulsa Talons, Wichita Wild, and Springfield WolfPack.

"We are glad we were able to bring in Rasmussen," said Head Coach Rodney Blackshear. "He has a strong arm and has experience in the indoor game. The battle between he and Bloodsaw is going to be a very competitive one and is going to make both of those guys better football players."

Rasmussen and Bloodsaw will split reps this week in preparation for the Bricktown Brawlers according to Coach Blackshear.

"Those guys will split reps 50/50 this week in practice," said Coach Blackshear. "We probably won't name a starter until late in the week after we've had time to evaluate what each guy was able to do in practice."

The Venom's next game is March 13th as they head to Oklahoma City to take on the Bricktown Brawlers. The Venom's first regular season home game is March 18th as they host the Wyoming Calvary. Season tickets can still be purchased through the Amarillo Venom offices, located at 901 S. Buchanan in downtown Amarillo, by calling 806-350-7277, stopping by any United Supermarket location, or by going to www.panhandletickets.com .
