Amarillo Venom News Release

Amarillo, TX 4/2/11 - The Amarillo Venom dropped a heartbreaker at the hands of the Allen Wranglers 52-51 Saturday night at Coors Light Field.

The Venom's new faces made their presents known as Mario Reese and Marcus Rowe were in the quarterback's face most of the night, but four interceptions were too much for the Venom to overcome.

Despite their four interceptions the Venom were in the game late and had a chance to win. Down 11 with under a minute and a half to go X'Zavier Bloodsaw connected with DuVaughn Flagler on a quick slant to pull the Venom within five. The two-point conversion was no good.

With only one timeout the Venom were forced to kick the onside. Addison McCauley kicked it to the right side and Steve Bergeski, who made his first start for the Venom this season, was able to recover it giving the Venom life.

With the football and under a minute remaining, Bloodsaw was able to hook up with Flagler once again for a 24-yard touchdown pass to put them Venom in the lead 51-50 with 27 seconds remaining. The Venom would elect to go for two to try to stretch the lead to three. Bloodsaw would fumble the snap on the two-point conversion and Frankie Soloman would scoop it up and take it all the way back the other direction, sucking the life out of Coors Light Field and giving the Wranglers the 52-51 lead.

One last onside attempt by McCauley would be unsuccessful and the Wranglers would run out the clock by taking a knee, escaping with the 52-51 victory. Up next for the Amarillo Venom is a rematch with the Colorado Ice on April 9th.
