Venom Game Preview
April 1, 2011 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Amarillo Venom News Release
Amarillo, TX 4/1/11 - The Amarillo Venom are set to host the Allen Wranglers in a battle of division rivals Saturday night at Coors Light Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and the doors will open at 6:00 p.m.
Venom fans can expect to see a different team this week as numerous changes and additions have been made since the Venom's trip to Odessa. Julian Reese has had a week on the Venom's sideline as Assistant Head/ Quarterbacks Coach and Andrew Carcich will be lining up under center.
"Andrew is a veteran guy that knows the indoor game and has been through the fire," said Rodney Blackshear, the Venom's Head Coach. "He's demonstrated his ability to lead this week in practice."
Carcich will have plenty of weapons to throw to, as Steve Bergeski makes his first appearance of the 2011 season and John Roberson was added to what was an already very strong receiving unit.
The offense isn't the only unit that will look different this week as the defensive side of the ball has made some changes as well. Sammy Walker, the Venom's defensive coordinator who always stresses the importance of hitting, will have a couple new additions to his defense in Marcus Rowe, a 6'4" 330 pound defensive lineman from West Texas A&M and Mario Reese, a 6'3" 250 pound defensive lineman from the University of Minnesota.
"Rowe has already caught my attention this week in practice," said Coach Walker. "He is a really big guy. If he leans up against the side of a car it tips up on two wheels"
Saturday's game is the Venom's breast cancer awareness game and ladies that wear pink to the Civic Center Box Office will get in free. The Venom are also providing a free Candy Coburn concert at the Civic Center immediately following the game. The Coors Light Tailgate Party will take place as always on the corner of Johnson and 3rd. The tailgate party will begin at 5:30 and there will be free food and drink while supplies last.
Venom tickets can be purchased through the Amarillo Venom offices, located at 901 S. Buchanan in downtown Amarillo, by calling 806-350-7277, stopping by any United Supermarket location, or by going to www.panhandletickets.com .
The AMARILLO VENOM is a proud member of the Indoor Football League.
