Vancouver Whitecaps FC Forward Camilo Sanvezzo Voted MLS Player of the Week

Published on October 7, 2013 under Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release

NEW YORK (Monday, October 7, 2013) - Vancouver Whitecaps FC forward Camilo Sanvezzo was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for week 32 of the 2013 MLS season.

Camilo scored two second half goals Sunday, both of which brought Vancouver level with the visiting Timbers, in a game that finished 2-2 at BC Place and kept the Whitecaps in Playoff contention.

Camilo's first goal came in the 76th minute off a free kick nearly 30 yards from goal that deflected off Portland Timbers midfielder Rodney Wallace into the bottom corner of the goal.

Two minutes later, following the go-ahead goal from Portland, Camilo answered again with a spectacular, goal-of-the-year candidate. Young-Pyo Lee sent a ball back inside the penalty area where Camilo struck the ball with a scissor-kick volley from the top of the box to the near post corner.

This is Camilo's third Player of the Week recognition, the most in MLS this year. Vancouver Whitecaps FC are back in action this Wednesday, October 9 when they face the Seattle Sounders FC at CenturyLink Field (10:00 p.m. ET).

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com/.
