Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, BC) - After a lead-off single from RF Jose Crisotomo to kick off the bottom of the 9th inning, the Canadians couldn't find a way to push across the tying run as RHP Chris Fetter and the Eugene Emeralds held on for a 6-5 win as the C's opened an eight-game home stand Tuesday night.
Vancouver trailed 6-1 heading into the bottom of the 6th inning before sending eight batters to the plate that produced four runs including a two-run single from 2B Ryne Jernigan that scored DH Kent Walton and 1B Anthony Aliotti cutting the lead to 6-5.
The Achilles' heel for the Canadians was their struggle to knock in runners in scoring position as the C's were 1-for-10 on the night.
The Vancouver Canadians (24-27) will play game two of this current eight-game home stand against Eugene starting at 7:05pm. RHP Dan Straily gets the start for the Canadians who will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak in the process.
The Canadians will host the 3rd installment of the 2009 Superstar Series with former Boston Red Sox Bill Buckner arriving at Nat Bailey Stadium on Wednesday, August 12th at 6:00pm. Buckner's media availability is limited as his flight does not arrive at Vancouver International Airport until 4:30pm.
