
Valkyries Notch First Sweep Over Fury

Orlando Valkyries News Release
The Orlando Valkyries defeated the Columbus Fury 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-17) Friday night at Nationwide Arena - the team's first sweep of the season.
Outside hitter Adora Anae led the Valkyries with 20 total points (17 kills, two aces and one block) in the contest. Full statistics for the match can be found here.
Set 1
The Valkyries caught fire and took the first set 25-19. The Fury scored the set's first point on a kill by outside hitter Reagan Cooper, who had six in the set. Columbus built a 6-3 lead and led 15-12 at the media timeout. Off the timeout, the Valkyries would score nine straight points to take the lead. And Orlando shielded off the Fury to close out the set. Leading the Valkyries' charge was setter Wilma Rivera, who had four aces in the set and finished the match with six.
Set 2
Orlando decisively took the second set 25-15. The Valkyries jumped out to an early lead off the strong play of opposite hitter Shainah Joseph, who had three kills in a row to start the set. Leading 8-4, the Valkyries scored seven consecutive points to gain an 11-point advantage. The Fury could not make a comeback. Anae led both teams with eight kills in the set and Joseph had seven.
Set 3
The Valkyries took the third set 25-17 to complete the sweep. Orlando scored the set's first point off a block by outside hitter Carly Skjodt, who started the match and finished with 13 points. With the score tied at 5-5, the Valkyries pulled away with a 7-1 run. Orlando would lead by as much as nine and closed out the set strong with two consecutive kills by Skjodt.
The Valkyries (6-8) are back in action on Saturday, April 6, against the Grand Rapids Rise at 7 p.m. at Grand Rapid's Van Andel Arena. The next Valkyries home match on Thursday, April 11, against the Grand Rapids Rise gametime has changed from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Addition Financial Arena.
