MILWAUKEE, WI (March 8, 2007) - Foreign is the flavor of the Milwaukee Wave's 2007 Amateur Draft, with the first three selections in Thursday's draft hailing from other countries. Milwaukee selected sixth of eight teams in each of five rounds, beginning with a territorial round.

Torphichen, Scotland native Craig Mallace was the chosen by the Wave in the territorial round. In four seasons at UW-Milwaukee, Mallace, a defender/midfielder, was twice chosen second-team All-Horizon League. He is 10th in the UWM record books with 18 career assists and also scored nine goals in 75 contests.

The 6-foot, 170-pounder played in high school at Henry Sibley in Mendota Heights, Minn.

"Craig had a very good college career with the Panthers," said Keith Tozer, Wave head coach and director of soccer operations. "He was coached by Louie Bennett and then Jon Coleman, so he had very good coaching in his four years there. And we're in need of a left-side defender, since we only have Troy Dusosky."

Mallace said: "It's a great honor to be drafted by a professional team; it's been a dream my whole life. I feel very fortunate to be given the opportunity, and there's a good possibility I could play next season."

The Wave then followed in the first two regular rounds with highly decorated international players from Central Connecticut State, an NCAA Division I school. Forward Alex Harrison of Eastbourne, England was a two-time All-New England selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. He recorded 49 goals in 65 games for the Blue Devils, adding 12 assists. He also captained England's U-18 national team, scoring four goals in six games. While playing for the youth squad of English Premier League club Portsmouth, he scored 54 goals in 48 games.

College teammate Peter Howe hails from Havelock North, New Zealand. He captained New Zealand's U-20 team at the Oceania World Cup qualifier and was a member of the U-23 national team. In 2001, Howe was named New Zealand's Men's International Young Player of the Year.

In the third round, the Wave selected forward Ryan Love, a second-team All-American for NCAA Division II East Stroudsburg State. A team captain who can play anywhere on the field, Love helped the Warriors to a trio of NCAA tournament appearances in his career.

Milwaukee's final selection was David Feazell, plucked from the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, the backyard of MISL rival Baltimore Blast. Feazell, a forward/midfielder, was the Retrievers' MVP last season, finishing second on the team with 15 points (6 goals, 3 assists).

The expansion Orlando Sharks selected Marquette University forward Matt Blouin in the fourth round. Blouin, a native of Leawood, Kan., scored 14 goals in four seasons for the Golden Eagles. Newark's expansion team selected Matt Maher in the territorial round; the Temple product is the brother of Wave forward Anthony Maher. They hail from Cape May, N.J.

Among the draft products making an impact for the Wave now are Joe Hammes, Chad Dombrowski and Brett Wiesner.

The Wave's next regular-season game is at 1 p.m. Sunday against Philadelphia at the U.S. Cellular Arena. Halftime features one of the Wave's most popular attractions, the Mascot Game. Come see Brad Beach, Din-O-Mite and others butt their oversized foam heads on the field for silent soccer supremacy.
