Utah Royals FC Takes to the Road to Face North Carolina Courage

SANDY, Utah - Utah Royals FC hits the road after a two-game home stint to take on the defending National Women's Soccer League Champions North Carolina Courage on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. MT. The team will look to bounce back after dropping their first points of the season last weekend.

The match will mark the first with recently acquired FW Mallory Weber.Royals FC announced the acquisition of Weber off the NWSL Waiver Wire on Monday, May 15. She previously played three seasons with Portland Thorns FC where she scored one goal in 44 appearances and was part of the squad that won the 2017 National Women's Soccer League Championship.

Last Thursday, MF Diana Matheson and MF Desiree Scott were named to roster for the Canadian Women's National Team as they prepare to battle Mexico in the squad's final test before the official announcement of the roster for the 2019 Women's World Cup. Canada will take on CONCACAF rivals, Mexico, Saturday, May 18 at 11:00 p.m. MT. Additionally, the match against North Carolina will mark the final match for DF Rachel Corsie prior to her departure for the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup with Scotland.

On Thursday, four of Utah's finest faced off against one another in a clash of the United States and New Zealand. DF Katie Bowen and the Ferns fell 5-0 to DF Kelley O'Hara, FW Christen Press and DF Becky Sauerbrunn with the Stars and Stripes.

In the URFC's last match, the squad fell 2-1 against the Houston Dash, the first loss of the season. FW Amy Rodriguez scored Utah's lone goal of the match in the 29th minute with an assist from MF Vero Boquete.

URFC holds a 1-0-2 (3 points) all-time record against Saturday's foe, North Carolina, and were the only team in the league to defeat the Courage last season. In the last outing against the Courage, the two teams played to a scoreless draw at Rio Tinto Stadium.
