Published on July 12, 2005 under USL First Division (USL-1) News Release

TAMPA, FL - USL announced Tuesday the Week 12 Teams of the Week, honoring Seattle's Taylor Graham, Long Island's Moussa Sy, Cape Cod's Andrew Metcalf and Mile High's Ymara Guante as the Players of the Week. The U15 Cleveland Internationals Girls and the U14 Metro United Boys were honored as the Super Y-League Clutch Team Performances of the Week.

Sounders defender Taylor Graham notched his first two goals of the season in leading his squad to a 4-2 win over the Portland Timbers on Fox Soccer Channel Friday night.

Just before halftime, with the Sounders holding a 1-0 lead, midfielder Gabriel Sturm sent a 30 yard free-kick curling towards the back post where Graham nodded it home for his first tally of the night.

He put the game out of reach in the 89th minute when midfielder Andrew Gregor also sent a free-kick towards the far post. Another header for Graham as he was falling down secured the brace and gave the Sounders a 4-2 victory.

Graham joined the Sounders this season after playing for the Kansas City Wizards of Major League soccer in 2003 and 2004.

Rough Riders forward Moussa Sy earns Player of the Week honors for the second time this season. His two goals paced Long Island to a 5-2 victory over the New Hampshire Phantoms on Wednesday.

In the 48th minute, Sy took a lofted pass by Gary Sullivan and placed it right down the center of the Phantoms net to tie the score at 1-1 and give Sy his fifth goal in two home games. After another Rough Rider goal, Sy had a hand in making the score 3-1 as he was taken down in the box, and fellow forward Derrick Etienne converted the penalty kick.

Then in the 72nd minute, Sy's unassisted goal gave him eight on the season and put the game away with the Rough Riders up 4-1.

Sy played for the PDL's New York Freedoms in 1999 where he was the team's second-leading scorer with six goals and seven assists for 19 points. He registered just four goals all of last season with the Rough Riders and three with the club as a member of the USL First Division in 2001.

The Cape Cod Crusaders have moved atop the Northeast table at 10-2-1 and are near clinching a playoff berth. Midfielder Andrew Metcalf propelled the club to two wins over the weekend with six goals to earn the Player of the Week honor.

Metcalf was on fire Saturday against the Westchester Flames, netting the first three tallies in the 15th, 38th and 40th minutes of their 6-1 win and a fourth in the second half.

The following night he led the team to a 2-1 win at Albany. Trailing 1-0 at the break, Metcalf scored six minutes into the second frame and notched the game-winner in the 89th to capture the team's 10th win of the season.

Metcalf's six goals doubled his total for the season, pushing him into a tie for second in the league in goals and seventh in points. He registered just three goals and two assists in 16 games for the Nashville Metros last season.

The Mile High Mustangs kept their playoff hopes alive in addition to adding to the club's franchise best season at 7-4-0 with a pair of road wins over the weekend courtesy of Player of the Week Ymara Guante.

The forward helped lead the team to a surprising 4-1 win over the second-place Arizona Heatwave Friday with a pair of early goals in the fifth and 17th minutes. Mary Everett made it 3-0 in the 36th and Guante found Megan Beasley in the 43rd to put the game out of reach at before the break.

Guante added a goal and an assist two nights later in San Diego en route to another 4-1 win. She found Adrianne Almaraz in the 21st minute for the early lead and tallied in the 65th to make it 3-1, giving the Mustangs their first road sweep in team history.

Guante now has 10 goals and four assists on the season, leading the team and ranking sixth in the league in points and eighth in goals.

Leaders of the Great Lakes Division, the U15 Cleveland Internationals Girls edged Fort Wayne Fever Academy 4-3. Alison Ramsey scored twice in the win with Hannah Johnson and Kelsey Kempton adding the other goals. Eliana Sommer, Jordan Pawlik and Esperanza Castillo scored for Fort Wayne.

The U14 Metro United Boys picked up their first win of the season, downing the Midwest's second-place Ohio Elite Soccer Academy 4-3 in overtime. Aaron Lantz and David Schmitt has a goal and assist each with Kenny Giacobbe and Jimmy Higham adding to the mix. Shelby Hill scored twice for Ohio Elite with Dylan Hoop scoring as well.
