Revenge: The Lincoln Stars exacted some revenge on Sioux Falls, sweeping them out of the first round of the Clark Cup Playoffs 3-0. It was Sioux Falls that ousted Lincoln with a four-game sweep a year ago. It was Lincoln s first playoff sweep since the second round in 2003.

A New Champion: Sioux Falls ouster means that there will be a new Clark Cup Champion this year. Eight different teams have won the last eight Clark Cups and there hasn t been a back-to-back champion since Omaha did it in 1993 and 1994.

SC At I BP: Sioux City and Omaha will be playing game four of their first round series at Sioux City s IBP Ice Center. The circus is in town and has taken over the Tyson Event Center, displacing the Musketeers.

Blast From The Past : Former Waterloo Black Hawks great James Marcou dropped the ceremonial first puck prior to Saturday s game with Cedar Rapids.

OT Winner # 1 : Jason Gregoire scored 1:16 into the second overtime, giving Lincoln a 3-2 win over Sioux Falls in game one of their series.

OT Winner # 2 : Craig Smith scored with 2:36 to play in the second overtime to give Waterloo a 4-3 win over Cedar Rapids in the first game of their series.

OT Winner # 3 : Andrew Conboy scored with 1:25 remaining in the first overtime period to give Omaha a 5-4 win over Sioux City in game three of their first round series.

The Pow er Of Five: Five of the seven goals scored by Waterloo in their first two games have come on the power play. They are five for seven (71.4%) on the man advantage thus far.

Kemper I s Tops: With three points on Saturday night, John Kemp became the all-time playoff scoring leader in Indiana Ice history. He has 22 points in his playoff career.

Slow Star ts: Of the eight playoff teams, only Cedar Rapids has failed to get on the scoreboard in the first period.

Tw o Of The Same: Lincoln and Omaha have each put 133 shots on goal in their first three playoff games.

Shoot ing Gallery: Chicago s Rob Madore tied the league-high for saves in a period during this post-season, making 16 stops in the first period Saturday against Indiana.

First Round Blues: Sioux Falls has now been dispatched in the first round of the Clark Cup Playoffs three times in their history (2000 and 2002 were the other years), and all three times it has been by way of a series sweep.

Goal A Game: Lincoln s Danny Baco has scored a goal in each of the Stars first three playoff games and is tied for the playoff goal scoring lead (with teammate Jared Festler) with three goals.

ALUMNI NEWS

Nathan Gerbe (Omaha) scored seven goals in the NCAA tournament, a new record for the event. Gerbe was also named the Most Outstanding Player of the Frozen Four. His Boston College team defeated Notre Dame 4-1 in the title game.

Boston College s 2008 National Championship Team had six former USHLers on the roster - Tim Filangier i (Waterloo), Nick Pet recki (Omaha), Car l Sneep (Lincoln), Brock Bradford (Omaha) and Gerbe.

Tom Gilber t (Chicago) signed a six-year, $24 million contract with the Edmonton Oilers.

Kur t Sauer (North Iowa) scored the first goal of the playoffs for Colorado. This, after scoring just once in 54 games during the regular season.

Calle Ridderw all (Tri-City) scored the game-winning goal in overtime as Notre Dame beat Michigan 5-4 to advance to the NCAA title game.

Duvie Westcot t (Omaha) had a goal and three assists as Syracuse defeated Hamilton 7-1 in AHL play, the 15th straight win for the Crunch.

Kar l Goehr ing (Fargo-Moorhead) was the AHL Goaltender of the Month for March.

Ryan Malone (Omaha) scored twice in the final 1:02 to give Pittsburgh a 5-3 win over Ottawa and a 2-0 lead in their first round Stanley Cup playoff series.

Tyler Haskins (Sioux City) has been returned to the ECHL s Utah Grizzlies after a stint with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders.

THE WEEKLY NUGGET

Lincoln s Jimmy McGroar ty is the first Lincoln coach (yes, they ve only had two) to start his career 3-0 in the playoffs. Steve Johnson went 2-1 in his first three games in 1996-97, but did go 12-2 overall that playoff year and won the Clark Cup.
