Published on April 1, 2014 under United States Hockey League (USHL) News Release

Chicago, IL - The United States Hockey League has reviewed a formal proposal to bring an expansion USHL Member Club to Bloomington, Illinois beginning with the 2014-15 season.

Under the terms of the proposal, reviewed by the League's Commissioner and the USHL Executive Committee and presented to the League's Board of Directors last week, the Bloomington team would play its home games at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum in downtown Bloomington, a venue that was opened in the spring of 2006 and has a seating capacity of up to 6,000 fans for hockey.

The formal proposal to own an expansion team in Bloomington was submitted by CSH International, Inc. which currently owns and operates multiple other sports properties in both hockey and baseball.

Bloomington, located in central Illinois, is within 350 miles of nine current USHL Member Clubs. The U.S. Cellular Coliseum has hosted minor professional hockey organizations since opening in 2006, most recently the Bloomington Thunder in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) during the 2013-14 season.

Final approval of the expansion USHL Member Club and proposal is subject to execution of proper documentation with the League and review being undertaken by the USHL Commissioner's Office and the Executive Committee, and to final approval by the USHL Board of Directors.
