U.S. National Team News Release
Toledo, OH â The US National Team Development Program Under-17 Team took to the road in NAHL action and defeated the Toledo IceDiggers, with a five-goal outburst in the second period to earn two points, moving back into a fourth place tie, with three games in hand, with the Cleveland Barons. US-17 defenseman provided offense (seven points) as the squad exploded for five goals in the middle period en route to a 6-1 final.
Blueliner Brandon Gentile (Clarkston, MI) started the US scoring with his first goal of the season, on a delayed penalty call, at the 12:19 mark of the second period. Forward Ryan Stoa (Bloomington, MN) and rearguard Mike Stuart (Rome, NY) picked up assists on the play.
Following an IceDiggers score Brandon Scero (Canton, MI), took a feed from D-Man Mark Mitera (Livonia, MI) glided across the top left face-off circle and rifled a shot, top shelf, past Toledo goaltender Jason Kearney. Mitera scored just over four minutes later, again on a delayed penalty call, with Stoa garnering an assist.
Zach MacVoy (Livonia, MI) took a Stuart pass, who had been feed the puck from Seth Seidman (Milton, MA), crossed left to right in front of the IceDigger goal and buried his seventh lamp lighter of the season past a sprawling Kearny.
Stuart once again lent a helping hand, recording his third of four assists on the night, as Scero netted his second of the game and his 27th overall goal of the season on a US extra-man opportunity. Jason Lawrence (Saugus, MA) finished the scoring for the US with a power-play goal mid-way through the third period.
Billy Blase (Santa Monica, CA) registered his seventh win of the season in net, stopping all six Toledo power play attempts, and lowering his goals against average to a 3.57.
