Chicago Rush News Release
The Chicago Rush announced today it has signed FB/LB Casey Urlacher to the team's practice squad.
Urlacher (6-1, 240, Lake Forest College), the younger brother of Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher, originally signed with the Rush prior to the 2004 season, but was released at the conclusion of training camp.
After his release in Chicago, he played the for the af2's Peoria Pirates in 2004, helping to lead the Pirates to the National Conference championship and a berth in the 2004 Arena Cup. With Peoria, Urlacher rushed for 253 yards and 15 touchdowns, while recording 37 tackles and 3.5 sacks. He was signed in October 2004 by the Nashville Kats and played in two games this season before being released last week.
"Casey is a driven football player who has continued to learn the game of Arena Football and improve since he was with us in training camp last year," said Rush head coach Mike Hohensee. "We were looking to add some depth at the FB/LB position and bringing Casey back seemed like a natural fit."
In college, Urlacher spent three seasons at Lake Forest College, playing both linebacker and running back during his career. A three-time First-Team All-Midwest Conference selection, Urlacher was voted the team's MVP after each of his three seasons, recording 358 tackles, five sacks and three interceptions in his career.
During his 2002 senior season, Urlacher garnered the Midwest Conference's Defensive Player of the Year award after leading the league in tackles (117) for the second consecutive year. In addition, Urlacher saw significant action on the offensive side of the ball in 2002, rushing 41 times for 213 yards and eight touchdowns.
The Rush (4-4) returns to action this weekend when it travels to Long Island to take on the Eastern Division-leading New York Dragons (6-2) Saturday, April 2, at 6 p.m. Chicago returns home to Allstate Arena at noon Sunday, April 10, when it hosts the defending ArenaBowl champion San Jose SaberCats.
