Omaha, NE - No home team ended up on the winning end this weekend. Five teams went on the road and all earned important conference victories.
SIOUX FALLS 51, COLORADO 17
At Loveland, CO
The Sioux Falls Storm won their 29th-in-a-row, defeating the Colorado Ice 51-17 Saturday at the Budweiser Events Center. Sioux Falls was led by quarterback Terrance Bryant and a swarming defensive attack. Bryant lead the offense by completing 14 of 22 passes for 207 yards and five touchdowns. The Storm's defense forced three fumbles (recovering all three), intercepted Matt Guiterrez three times, broke up three of his passes and also sacked him five times. Leading the way for the Ice were defensive back J.J. Billingsley and running back Eugene Reed. Billingsley made 6.5 tackles (one for loss) and a fumble recovery while Reed had 66 yards on the ground and 13 receiving yards. This week, Sioux Falls (9-0) returns home to face Sioux City while Colorado (5-5) has a bye.
BILLINGS 73, SIOUX CITY 30
At Sioux City, IA
The Wild West shootout happened for the Billings Outlaws as they scored 73 points to the Sioux City Bandits' 30 at Tyson Events Center Saturday evening. Leading the way for Billings were quarterback Chris Dixon and their defense as well. Dixon completed 14 of 17 passes for 123 yards and seven touchdowns while the defense intercepted five passes, broke up four more and earned a sack. Sioux City was led by defensive back Alex Ardley and running back Andre Raymond. Ardley made three tackles and recorded 209 yards in kickoff returns. Raymond caught eight passes for 68 yards and also rushed for 26 yards and two touchdowns. This week, Billings (4-4) begins a three-game homestand against the Omaha Beef as Sioux City (3-7) heads north on I-29 to face Sioux Falls.
RIVERCITY 38, LEXINGTON 31
At Lexington, KY
It didn't take overtime to finish this game. However, the RiverCity Rage did defeat the Lexington Horsemen by a touchdown, 38-31, Saturday at Rupp Arena. The Rage were led by linebacker Joe Bevis and wide receiver Hurtis Chinn. Bevis tallied 7.5 tackles (2.5 for loss) and forced a fumble; he scored on a one-yard run in the second quarter. Chinn had 135 all-purpose yards (18-rushing, 82-receiving, 35-kickoff returns). Leading the way for the Horsemen were jack-of-all trades Harry Lewis and defensive lineman Ellery Moore. Lewis completed 10 of 21 passes for 92 yards and a touchdown; rushed for 62 yards on nine carries and caught two passes for 11 yards. Moore made 9.5 tackles (1.5 for loss), recorded ½ a sack, and blocked a kick. This week, RiverCity (6-4) returns to Family Arena to face Ohio Valley while Lexington (5-5) completes a two-game homestand at Rupp Arena as they take on Bloomington.
ROCK RIVER 56, OHIO VALLEY 55
At Wheeling, WV
The Rock River Raptors edged the Ohio Valley Greyhounds by a single point, 56-55, when the teams met Saturday at WesBanco Arena. Leading the way for the Raptors were defensive back Blue Aldridge and quarterback Ben Sankey. Aldridge made 8.5 tackles and broke up a pass. Sankey went 20-28, passing for 226 yards and six touchdowns. He also led the team in rushing with 34 yards and a touchdown. The Greyhounds were led by defensive lineman Jeffrey Candler and quarterback Oscar Davenport. Candler made 10.5 tackles (5.5 for loss) and also recorded three sacks. Davenport completed 20 of 30 passes for 223 yards and four touchdowns. This week, Rock River (6-4) heads on the road again to face Evansville as Ohio Valley (2-7) heads to RiverCity (St. Charles, MO) to take on the Rage.
EVANSVILLE 58, BLOOMINGTON 46
At Bloomington, IL
The Evansville BlueCats snapped two streaks Saturday with a 58-46 victory over the Bloomington Extreme; their own two-game losing streak and Bloomington's five-game winning streak. Leading the way were safety A.J. Bryant and running back Odest Shannon.
Bryant directed the defense as he made 7.5 tackles and had three interceptions (one returned 30 yards for a touchdown). Shannon had an exceptional game, tallying 233 all-purpose yards (six-rushing, 83-receiving, and 144-kickoff returns) and three receiving touchdowns. The Extreme were led by quarterback Dusty Burk and defensive back Mike Crumpler. Burk completed 24 of 37 passes for 261 yards and six passing touchdowns as Crumpler made 11 tackles (six-solo and 10-assisted). This week, Evansville (3-6) returns to Roberts Stadium and faces Rock River while Bloomington (5-4) heads to legendary Rupp Arena to take on the Lexington Horsemen.
