July 13, 2010 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release
Richmond, VA: At the end of the Indoor Football League regular season, a tornado swept through the Billings, Montana area. Included in the damage was the home arena of the Billings Outlaws.
The Outlaws could have packed it in. They could have decided they could not play their playoff games at home despite their efforts to earn this advantage over fourteen weeks of the season and tried to work out a road schedule for their playoff run. Selecting neither of those options, the team persevered. Billings instead rallied around the situation, turning what was a bleak situation into a positive.
Utilizing an arena built primarily for the team's practices, the team was able to keep their playoff games in Montana, not only for the team, but for the fans.
Commissioner Tommy Benizio said of the situation, "What [Billings] did showed great resiliency and fortitude. I am truly impressed and amazed by how the team stepped up their efforts in providing an alternate venue for the games".
Earning their way to the United Bowl, Billings had hoped to play the championship game in front of not only their fans, but a national television audience. However, due to technical and other issues related to their alternate game site, the event will not be broadcasted on television.
The silver lining in all of this for football fans nationally will be the game can instead be viewed free online at b2tv.com and can be accessed by visiting goifl.com and clicking the B2 logo.
