Indiana Ice News Release
Four unanswered spoiled a two-goal lead for the Indiana Ice in the 2013-2014 season opener as the Ice fell 4-2 to Team USA U18 at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.
Aidan Muir recorded points on both tallies with a goal and an assist while Mitch Hults added the second marker for Indy. Samu Perhonen finished the contest with 22 saves on 26 shots on net.
After a quiet first period, Muir 's pregame home ovation was well earned as the first overall draft pick muscled the puck past USA netminder Edwin Minney to score the first of Indy's two second period goals.
The Ann Arbor, MI native took the feed off a faceoff and lasered the puck into the net to give the Ice a 1-0 lead.
Hults followed suit 10 minutes later when his power play goal gave Indy a solid 2-0 lead when his wrister from the faceoff circle beat Minney glove side for the score. Muir earned his second point of the night with an assist while Newell also earned a helper on the play.
Equaling the first 14 shot of the contest, Perhonen surrendered back-to-back goals within the last three minutes of the frame to knot the score at 2-2. Nolan Stevens and Ryan Hitchcock were credited with the goals.
USA rattled off a second pair of goals in the third period to finalize the score at 4-2. Shane Gersich and Louis Belpedio were credited with the goals in the third.
Hockey returns to the "Circle City" on Saturday from Pan Am Pavilion as the Ice faceoff with the Sioux Falls Stampede at 7:05 pm.
