UIF Week Five Preview

April 21, 2006 - United Indoor Football Association (UIF) News Release

Omaha, NE- United Indoor Football (UIF) will kick-off Week 5 action tomorrow night with the beginning of a couple new rivalries and a few old ones as well. Games include Sioux City at Omaha, Sioux Falls at Ft. Wayne, Peoria to Rock River; Lexington travels to Evansville and the Bloomington Extreme head to Ohio Valley to meet the Greyhounds.

The battle of I-29 continues as the Sioux City Bandits (1-3) travel to Omaha to meet the Beef (2-2) for the second time this season. The Beef beat the Bandits in Week 2 in the final seconds of the game with a goal line stop by LB, Chris Eads (2-time Defensive Player of the Week) to win with a 38-35 score. The Beef are fourth in the league in scoring while the Bandits remain in last place. But the Beef will have their work cut out as Sioux City leads the league in defensive stops. The Bandits are led by Spetlar Tonga with 6.6 tackles a game. Beef LB, Eads is currently third in the league with 28.5 total tackles in the first four games of the season. Kick-off is at 7:05 pm CST in the Omaha Civic Auditorium.

The undefeated and defending National Champions, the Sioux Falls Storm (4-0), will travel to Ft. Wayne to take on the Freedom (3-1) with a 7:30 pm EST kick-off at Allen County Memorial Stadium. The Freedom are leading the league in attendance this season by averaging over 7,100 Freedom fans in their first two home games of 2006. Rocky Harvey was held to a mere 33-yards last week against the Bandits but is still leading the league with 93.2-yards a game through the first four weeks. Sioux Falls stands second in scoring on the season led by QB, Terrance Bryant who is ranked fifth in pass efficiency with a 80.4 rating.

The other unbeaten team left is the Lexington Horsemen (3-0) who travel to meet the Evansville BlueCats (1-3) at the "Fish Bowl" (Roberts Stadium) with a 7:05 pm CST kick-off. Lexington boasts the best offense in the league by leading in scoring, pass offense, kick-off returns, and second in rushing offense. They are led by QB, Eddie Eviston, who is filling in for long-time Horsemen quarterback turned General Manager, Dusty Bonner. Eviston leads the league in passing with 205.3-yards a game and pass efficiency with a rating of 135.0. The BlueCats will have to rely heavily on their defense to stop the Horsemen's passing and rushing game, but with John Winchester at linebacker for the BlueCats they should not have to worry. Winchester leads the league in tackles a game with 8.8 in 3 games and has 26.5 total on the season.

The Peoria Rough Riders (0-3) remain the only team not to tally a victory in the 2006 season. They will head North to visit new in-state rivals, the Rock River Raptors (2-2) in Rockford, IL. The Raptors two losses on the season have both come from the hands of the Sioux Falls Storm. Peoria had a close one last week against the Greyhounds, but fell short in the final minutes and lost the game by a mere touchdown, 60-53. Raptors quarterback, Ben Sankey, is averaging 95.5 yards passing a game and has connected on 12 TD passes through four games. Kick-off is slated for 7:30 pm CST at the MetroCentre, "Rockpile."

The Bloomington Extreme (2-2) and the Ohio Valley Greyhounds (1-3) round out Week 5 action in Wheeling, WV at Wesbanco Arena at 7:30 pm EST. The Greyhounds notched their first victory of the season in Peoria last week, led by QB, Matt Kohn. Kohn broke a UIF record with 314-yards passing and connected on 6 touchdowns. He also rushed for 80-yards and 2 more TD's. Brock Dodrill made 6 solo tackles, 5 assisted and one interception returned for 17-yards and the touchdown in the victory also. Both players received Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for their efforts. The Extreme marked their second victory of the season by edging out the BlueCats in the final seconds of the game in Bloomington last week. Extreme Quarterback, Dusty Burk, is second in the league with a 110.9 pass efficiency rating through four games.
