UIF Week 11 Preview

SIOUX FALLS STORM (9-0), at OMAHA BEEF (4-5) - The Storm could clinch the first play-off berth of the season with a win over the Beef tonight, the league's only Friday night game. Sioux Falls quaterback Terrance Bryant is having an MVP season as he ranks third in the UIF in passing yards (1465) and third in touchdown passes (29). The Storm defense is allowing the least amount of points per game in the UIF and has held Omaha to under 30 in both of the games. Omaha's offense is playing it's best football of the season as they have scored at least 40 points in two consecutive games for the first time this year. Newly signed running back Jamar Day rushed 10 times for 47 yards and two touchdowns in last week's victory and quarterback Fran Johnson received his first start of the year and passed for 131 yards and three touchdowns. Neither Day nor Johnson played in Omaha's last meeting with Sioux Falls in Week 8. Kick-off is scheduled for tonight at 7:35 pm CST at the Omaha Civic Center, "Slaughter House."

BLOOMINGTON EXTREME (4-5), at EVANSVILLE BLUECATS (3-6) - This game marks the second of two meeting between the teams this season. Bloomington won the earlier meeting on a Dusty Burk touchdown run with 1:15 left in the game. The Extreme are currently tied with three other teams for the fourth best record in the league. Extreme wide receiver Glenn Johnson is third in the UIF in receiving yards with 547. Johnson has compiled 42 receptions for the league's fifth highest scoring offense at 39.4 points per game. Evansville enters the game needing a win to get back into the playoff hunt. The BlueCats are led offensively by running back Dale Jennings who is tied for third in the UIF with 14 touchdowns on the season. Defensively, John Winchester leads the defense with 70.5 tackles, which ranks second in the UIF. The BlueCats defense is allowing 44.0 points per game, which is second most in the league. Game time starts at 7:05 pm CST Saturday night at Roberts Stadium, "The Fish Bowl."

FT. WAYNE FREEDOM (3-6), at OHIO VALLEY GREYHOUNDS (4-5) - Fort Wayne is coming off of their bye week and need this win to get back in the playoff hunt. Both Fort Wayne and Ohio Valley are in the thick of the playoff picture and would help themselves with a win. The Freedom have lost their last two games by a combined nine points and lost on a last second field goal by Evansville in their last game. Running back Adrian Reese is leading the UIF in all-purpose yards with 1370 yards gained this season. Ohio Valley comes into the game on a two-game win streak and in a tie for the fourth best record in the UIF. Quarterback Matthew Kohn continues to lead the high-powered Greyhound offense as he is second in the league in passing yards (1569) and is second in touchdown passes as well with 32. The Greyhound offense is averaging the fourth most points per game in the UIF by scoring 41.33 per game. This marks the second meeting between the teams this season. Fort Wayne won the earlier meeting 37-32. Saturday's game will be at Wesbanco Arena in Wheeling, WV at 7:30 pm EST.

ROCK RIVER RAPTORS (6-3), at LEXINGTON HORSEMEN (8-1) - This game is a battle between the top two scoring offenses in the UIF. Lexington is number one and is averaging 47.2 points per game, while Rock River is second in the league averaging 44.6 points a night. Before their bye last week, Rock River defeated Lexington to hand the Horsemen their first loss of the season. The Raptors scored 62 points against Lexington, which is the most that the Horsemen have given up this season. Rock River is led on offense by Ben Sankey, who was named UIF Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against Lexington in Week 9. This season, Sankey has thrown 27 touchdowns and only one interception. Lexington wide receiver and back-up quarterback Harry Lewis is tied for third in the league in touchdown receptions with 10. Lewis may have to start at QB as Eddie Eviston went down in the second half of last week's game. Rupp Arena will host Saturday's game at 7:30 pm EST in Lexington, KY.

SIOUX CITY BANDITS (4-5), at PEORIA ROUGH RIDERS (0-9) - Sioux City starts their march toward the playoffs with three road games in a row beginning with this match-up against the Rough Riders. The Bandits are in the middle of the playoff hunt as they are tied with three other teams for fourth place in the league. This game is a battle between the two lowest scoring offenses in the UIF. Sioux City is averaging 33.7 points per game, while Peoria is averaging 33.1 per outing. Bandit defenders Spetlar Tonga and Adam Lloyd have helped lead the Bandits to the second stingiest defense in the league as they are allowing just 31.6 points per game. Tonga leads the team in tackles with 47, while Lloyd leads the team and is sixth in the UIF in interceptions with four. Peoria lost by their biggest margin last week against Omaha and will look to get their first win of the season this week. Wide receiver Keith Herron is third in the UIF in all-purpose yards as he has accumulated 268 receiving yards and 622 kick-off return yards. This is the first of two meetings the teams will have in the final six games. Kick-off will be at 7:05 pm CST at Carver Arena in Peoria on Saturday night.
