UIF Names Week Eight Players of the Week
May 17, 2006 - United Indoor Football Association (UIF) News Release
Omaha, NE - United Indoor Football would like to announce the Week 8 Players of the Week. Last week's honors go to three players that have yet to receive the award during the 2006 season. Ryan Aulenbacher from the Rock River Raptors has been named as the Offensive Player of the Week after he helped lead his team to victory over the Ft. Wayne Freedom this past weekend. Two players from the Bloomington Extreme were honored this week as well, with the Defensive award going to Winston Taylor and the Special Teams going to Peter Christofilakos.
Ryan Aulenbacher (Week 8 Offensive Player of the Week) filled in for the injured Ben Sankey as quarterback during last Friday night's game against the Ft. Wayne Freedom. This was Aulenbacher's first start of the 2006 season as he led his team to a 49-36 victory. Ryan threw for 217-yards passing from 21 of 36 completions. He hit the end zone with five passes and did throw one interception during the contest. Ryan is no stranger to indoor football as he still holds many records in the Sioux Falls Storm organization when he was with the team three years ago. He came out of retirement this season to back-up All-League QB, Sankey, and showed that he still has plenty of game in him. You can see Aulenbacher in action once again this weekend as the Raptors host the undefeated Lexington Horsemen this Saturday at "The Rock Pile."
Taking the Defensive Player of the Week from Week 8 was Bloomington Extreme linebacker, Winston Taylor. Taylor helped lead the Extreme defense to a victory over the Peoria Rough Riders, 59-15. He led all players with 11.5 total tackles as he made seven solos and nine assisted. Taylor also recovered two fumbles in which he forced both of them. On the season Taylor sits second in the league with 55 total tackles, one behind Evansville's John Winchesters 56. He is averaging 9.2 tackles a game and also has two sacks on the season.
Joining his teammate, Taylor, is the Bloomington kicker, Peter Christofilakos. Christofilakos received Special Teams Player of the Week after he made 6 of 8 PAT's and one field goal from 19-yards out to help his team take the victory. Peter is second in the league in field goals this season with 1.57 field goals a game. He leads the league in field goal percentage with 44% on the year and is fifth in the league in scoring by a kick with 53 points on the season. Taylor and Christofilakos will travel to meet the Omaha Beef this Saturday as they take the field for their first time in the "Slaughterhouse."
Receiving Honorable Mention honors are: Offense-Tom Kudyba, BLO; Defense-Nate Fluit, SFS; and Special Teams-William Mulder, LEX.
