Ben Sankey of the Rock River Raptors led his team to a victory over the Lexington Horsemen to receive Offensive Player of the Week and Holman and Christofilakos were honored as the Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week as they helped lead the Extreme to a victory over the Evansville BlueCats this past weekend.
Ben Sankey receives his second nomination for Offensive Player of the Week for the defeating the Lexington Horsemen for the second time this season. Sankey was given the award in Week 9 when he led the Raptors to a win over the Horsemen, 62-43, to give them their first loss of the season after he threw for five TD passes. This past week Sankey and his Raptors did it again by beating the Horsemen 55-46 in Rupp Arena. Sankey threw for 231-yards from 24 of 38 pass attempts and one interception. He hit the end zone with six passes on the night, his season high so far. Sankey also rushed three times for a total of 34-yards. Rock River has the third best record in the league behind Sioux Falls (10-0) and Lexington (8-2). Next weekend the Raptors head to Omaha (4-6) to visit the Beef at the Omaha Civic Center, "The Slaughter House."
Being awarded the Defensive Player of the Week for the first time this season was Bloomington defensive lineman, Quince Holmes. In only his third game of the season, Holmes recorded nine solo tackles to bring his total tackles to 20 on the year. He had 4 tackles for a loss of 22-yards and two sacks for 17-yards. Holmes also stepped up and blocked a field goal attempt by Ton-Ton Luzayadio with 21 seconds left in the game. The blocked kick prevented the BlueCats from going up by three, as they were tied 48-48. The last point came when Christofilakos kicked off in the end of the fourth quarter to have the BlueCats (3-7) stopped in the end zone to give them a rouge (worth 1 point). The Bloomington Extreme will host the Ohio Valley Greyhounds (5-5) next weekend at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
