Butler BlueSox News Release

Butler, PA - May 23, 2014 - Ryan Uhl and Nick Sell, both BlueSox stars last summer, have been named finalists for the 2015 Tino Martinez Award, which is awarded to the most outstanding Division II college player in the country.

Uhl and Sell were also named first-team members of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's 2015 All-America Team.

Uhl (St. Marys , PA / Indiana University of PA) had an incredible spring. His 29 home runs and 1.085 slugging percentage were the most throughout all of NCAA play, including D-I, D-II, and D-III. His homer total not only set a PSAC record, but tied for the second-most by any player in NCAA D-II history.

Sell (Wexford, PA / Seton Hill) was not far behind. He had 25 round- trippers in the regular season to go with a .458/.529/1.077 line. His performance helped the Griffins reach the NCAA D-II Atlantic Regionals.

Teammates as the starting corner infielders for the BlueSox in 2014, Uhl hit .308/.374/.427, led the team in home runs, and ranked second in RBIs. Sell hit .256/.297/.364 and was third on the team with 21 RBIs, despite appearing in just 36 games.

Six other players have been named finalists for the Tino Martiez Award, which has been awarded since 2010. The winner will be announced prior to the D-II Championship on June 1. For more information on the award, see TinoMartinezAward.com.

Both players were seniors this year, making them ineligible to return to Butler for the summer. The BlueSox will begin their season on Wednesday evening at Jamestown, NY.
