ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces were honored by the United States Senate with a resolution honoring the team's Kelly Cup championship, tying an ECHL record, and the third in Aces history.

The resolution, signed by Secretary of the Senate Nancy Erickson, is dated June 12, 2014 and marked as "congratulating the Alaska Aces Hockey Team on Winning the 2014 Kelly Cup" after the Aces became champions of the ECHL and defeated the Cincinnati Cyclones, 4-2 in the Kelly Cup Finals.

Included in the resolution is acknowledgement of participation with the Aces' NHL affiliate, the Calgary Flames. The resolution recognizes the Aces "as affiliated with the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League, opening a pathway to allow promising players to advance to the top tier of professional hockey in the United States and Canada."

A total of ten players, signed to contracts with the Flames or American Hockey League affiliate Abbotsford Heat, were on the Aces playoff roster.

The Aces set the single-game league high for 2014 Kelly Cup Playoff attendance with a sellout crowd of 6,438 fans at Sullivan Arena in Game 2 of the Kelly Cup Finals and drew over 12,200 fans to Sullivan Arena for games 2-3 of the Cup Finals.

The resolution additionally acknowledged "the people of the State of Alaska are proud of the dedication, hard work, and gritty determination of the players, coaches, and management of the Alaska Aces."

A full copy of the Senate's resolution is available on display at the Aces offices, located in Anchorage, at the corner of 15th and Gambell. A full, electronic visual of the resolution is located at the Aces website.
