U.S. Open Cup Preview: City Islanders Face West Chester United in Second Round

Harrisburg, PA - City Islanders FC will once again take part in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup when they take on West Chester United in the second round on Wednesday, May 18.
In West Chester United's first round matchup against Fredericksburg's FC they played 120 minutes and still were not able to find a winner. After a lengthy period of penalty kicks, West Chester came out on top 8-7 to move on to the second round.
This was WCUSC's first year ever participating in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, making the win even more notable. Now, the Predators Majors will take on the City Islanders as both teams battle to advance to the third round of Open Cup play where they will face the winner of Reading United and Chattanooga FC.
City has not played yet in this years tournament, but have had success in recent year. Four years ago City played two thrilling games against MLS clubs to advance all the way to the semi-finals. They took down New England Revolution in penalty kicks after a 3-3 match and then defeated the New York Red Bulls 3-1.
Last season, they made it to the fourth round where they met the Philadelphia Union. They fell 3-1 at PPL Park to end their 2015 campaign. City has had success in the competition boasting a 12-5-3 record in their history. In 2007, their first year in the tournament, they made it to the quarterfinals by upsetting DC United 1-0 in the fourth round.
Wedneday's match will take place at WCUSC Turf Field, 601 Westtown Road, West Chester, PA at 7:30 p.m. Gates open at 6:15 p.m. Admission will be $5 for adults and FREE admission to children under 16 wearing any EPYSA Youth Club Jersey.
