PIESTANY, Slovakia - The U.S. National Under-17 Team tied Germany's National Under-18 Team, 1-1, this afternoon in its opening game at the 2007 Under-18 Vlad Dzurilla Tournament.

Germany jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead 40 seconds into the game on a goal from Michael Christ. Team USA started slow, but netminder Michael Clemente (Great Falls, Va.) was up to the task, stopping eight-of-nine shots in the opening period to keep the U.S. in the game.

In the second period the U.S. carried the play, outshooting Germany 11-to-3, but were unable to beat German netminder Timo Pielmier.

Team USA tied the game with 11:11 remaining on a goal from Colin Moore (Medfield, Mass.). Germany recorded 20 shots on goal in the final period, but Clemente turned each of them away to earn the tie for Team USA.

"Today was a great hockey game," said U.S. Head Coach John Hynes (Warwick, R.I.). "Both teams worked extremely hard in a very evenly matched game. Now we need to focus and prepare to play a tough Swiss team tomorrow."

The U.S. National Under-17 Team will face Switzerland's National Under-18 Team at 8 a.m. EST tomorrow in its second game of the tournament. The game can be followed live online at www.szlh.sk.
