ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Brandon Maxwell (Winter Park, Fla.) made 26 saves as the U.S. National Under-18 Team fell to No. 2 University of Michigan, 4-1, here tonight at Yost Ice Arena.
Michigan got on the board early when Ben Winnett's shot deflected off a stick and inside the right post at 4:42. Just 1:01 later, Matt Rust fired a shot past the outstretched glove of Maxwell to double the Wolverine lead.
Rust notched his second power-play marker 38 seconds into the middle frame after he slid the puck under Maxwell from the middle slot. Robbie Czarnik's snap shot from the high slot found the back of the net at 10:46 to make it 4-0.
In the final stanza, Cam Fowler's (Farmington Hills, Mich.) shot from the left point beat netminder Billy Sauer at the 16:31 mark. Maxwell stopped all 10 shots he saw in the final frame.
