
U.S. National Under-18 Victorious In Opening Night

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - In game number one on the 2005-06 North American Hockey League schedule, the U.S. National Under-18 Team defeated the Mahoning Valley Phantoms 5-3 at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.
Mahoning Valley opening up the scoring 6:43 into the first period on a goal from Clinton Township, Mich. native Anthony Ciraulo. Patrick Kane (Buffalo, N.Y.) evened the score just over two minutes later for Team USA on a goal assisted by Nigel Williams (Montgomery, Ill.) and Blake Geoffrion (Brentwood, Tenn.).
The teams swapped the next two goals until defenseman Mike Ratchuk (Buffalo, N.Y.) scored the game winner with five minutes and 39 seconds remaining in the game. Bill Sweatt (Elburn, Ill.) cemented the victory with an empty net goal at the end of the third period.
The two teams will face off again tomorrow night at 7 pm at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. Tickets for the game are only $1.
