U.S. National Under-17 Team Travels North For A Pair Of League Contests

THIS WEEK: The U.S. National Under-17 Team travels to play a pair of divisional games versus North American Hockey League foes. On Saturday (Feb. 25) the team will travel to play the Alpena IceDiggers at 7:00 p.m. The next day (Feb. 26), Team USA will travel west to Traverse City (Mich.) for an afternoon tilt versus the Traverse City North Stars. The contest is slated to be begin at 1:00 p.m.

U.S. HEAD COACH RON ROLSTON: Ron Rolston is in his second season with USA Hockey's National Team Development Program. He has amassed a career record with the NTDP of 68-29-11. Rolston was an assistant coach in the collegiate ranks at Lake Superior State University, Clarkson University, Harvard University and Boston College prior to joining the NTDP.

U.S. HEAD COACH RON ROLSTON ON THE WEEKEND AHEAD: "It'll be a tough roadtrip north for our team this weekend. With the divisional race being so tight it's really important for our team to get as many points as possible. We are going to have to play tough, smart hockey this weekend so we can hopefully come out of it still atop the league standings."

USA PLAYER TIDBITS: U.S. Natioinal Under-18 team members Tony Mosey (Prior Lake, Minn) and Steve Sperry (Southlake, TX) will accompany the Team USA Under-17 Team this weekend for North American Hockey League games versus Alpena and Traverse City (Mich.)... James vanRiemsdyk (Middletown, NJ) and Colin Wilson (Greenwich, CT) will be joining the Under-18 Team for this weekend's series vs. RIT...... Forward C.J. Severyn (Beaver, PA) has been suspended nine games by the NAHL for an incident that occured on 2/2/06 versus Cleaveland.

GAME NOTES: The U.S. National Under-17 Team has a 6-1-0-0 record versus Alpena and a 2-2-1-0 line against Traverse City this season.

IRONMAN: USA defenseman Ian Cole (Ann Arbor, Mich.) is the only player to appear in all 50 games this season.

LAST WEEKEND: After returning from a first place finish at the Vlad Dzurilla Four Nations Tournament in Piestany, Slovakia, the U.S. National Under-17 Team went on the road to defeat NAHL opponent Cleveland 4-3. The win kept Team USA in first place in the NAHL North Division and secured a playoff berth for the team.

UP NEXT: Next weekend the U.S. National Under-17 team will host a Sunday (Mar. 5) matinee contest versus the Cleveland Barons. Cleveland currently stands just two points behind Team USA for first place in the NAHL North Division. Sunday's (Mar. 5) game will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.

ABOUT THE NTDP: Founded in 1997, USA Hockey's National Team Development Program was created to prepare student-athletes under the age of 18 for participation on U.S. National Teams and success in their future hockey careers. Located in Ann Arbor, Mich., the program has been instrumental in helping the United States capture gold medals at the 2002 and 2005 IIHF World Under-18 Championships and the 2004 IIHF World Junior Championship. This past summer, 15 NTDP alumni were selected in the National Hockey League Entry Draft. In the seven years NTDP players have been eligible for the draft, 107 players have been selected.
