
U.S. National Under-17 Team Drops Home Opener

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Springfield Jr. Blues (1-0) knocked off the U.S. National Under-17 Team 4-2 in North American Hockey League action at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.
Springfield opened the scoring 6:45 into the first period on a goal from Eric McKenna, assisted by O'Kane and Nicoletti. Springfield notched the next two goals to take a 3-0 lead half-way thru the second period. A minute later, Ryan Hayes (Syracuse, N.Y.) sparked the comeback for Team USA. A minute and a half into the third period, Phillip McRae (Chesterfield, Mo.) made it a one-goal game.
With just eight seconds remaining in the third period, Springfield forward Scott Phelps scored an empty-net goal to seal Team USA's fate. Brad Phillips (Farmington Hills, Mich.) stopped 24 of the 28 Springfield chances in goal for Team USA.
The two teams will face off again tomorrow night at 7 pm at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. Tickets for the game are $6 for adults and $4 for students.
