U-17s take the win over Toledo, 4-3

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The U.S. Under-17 Team defeated the Toledo Ice Diggers 4-3 Friday night (Feb. 25). Bill Sweatt (Elburn, Ill.) and Patrick Kane (Buffalo, N.Y.) got the U.S. up 2-0 after one period of play. Kane would later add two more points for a three-point evening (2G, 1A) while Sweatt added an assist as the game progressed for a two-point collection on the evening.

Toledo answered at the 6:13 mark of period two, but the U.S. regained their two-point lead with a tally from Chris Atkinson (Sparta, N.J.) at the 17:27 mark.

Third period action saw Patrick Kane score his second goal of the evening before Toledo registered two un-answered goals, trailing by a 4-3 score with just over seven minutes remaining in the game. The Ice Diggers pulled their goaltender with :55 seconds of play left, however the U.S. held on for the win.

Trent Palm (Edina, Minn.) and Michael Carman (Apple Valley, Minn.) shared two-points in the contest attaining two assists each. U.S. goaltender Joe Palmer (Yorkville, N.Y.) stopped 35 of 38 shots.
