Tyler Shelast Is Evansville IceMen Bound

EVANSVILLE, IN.--- The pace is gathering more momentum in the Tri-State region as training camp rapidly approaches for the inaugural campaign of ECHL hockey, Evansville IceMen style in the league 25th Anniversary Season in 2012-13. Today, the IceMen have added a stellar newcomer to their lineup as their roster grows pointing toward the opening of the new season.

On this date, the IceMen General Manager/Head Coach Rich Kromm has announced that right wing TYLER SHELAST has agreed to terms and will make Evansville his new hockey address for '12-13. Adhering to club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Embarking on his sixth pro season, SHELAST (shih-LAST), 27, arrives on the IceMen pro hockey scene with a potent package of potential stemming from an outstanding career in the junior `A', Division I collegiate ranks as well as two seasons ago in the CHL with the Quad City Mallards.

The 2011-12 season found the 6-1, 202lb power forward experiencing employment with four various ECHL entries; namely, the Stockton Thunder 2(0-0-0) 0-PIM; Trenton Titans 6(0-1-1) 2-PIM; Florida Everblades 10(1-2-3) 4-PIM and South Carolina Stingrays 19(3-4-7) 7-PIM. It was one season earlier when the Kelowna, British Columbia product truly prospered. In the 2010-11 season as a member of the IceMen opposition, the Quad City Mallards, he engineered 41-points in 53-games on 19-goals, 22-assists with 29-PIM and team best +7 premium plus rating. In that same season, Shelast was especially effective at the expense of his new team, the IceMen. In 10-outings opposing Evansville's finest on ice, he registered a point a game on 10(5-5-10) with team-bests of 3-PPG, 2-GWG and 31-SOG. His impressive +8 rating against the IceMen was also foremost for the Quad Citians.

GM/Coach Kromm is delighted to have his big forward aboard and is looking forward to having him on his team instead of game planning against him. "Tyler is a big, power forward, whose strength makes him strong in the corners." We consider him a good, solid two-way player as well. He had an excellent collegiate career followed by an outstanding year in Quad City. We think that he has all of the talent and ability to bounce back for a good year coming up this season."

A four-year standout at Michigan Tech in the highly-reputable WCHA Conference, Shelast ranked #2 in Huskies' scoring prowess in each of his last two seasons. In 2006-07, he registered 24-points in 38-games on 15-goals, 9-assists with 18-PIM while in 2007-08, he amassed 26-points in 39-games through 16-goals, 10-assists. In each season, he topped his team in goal-cannoneering as Michigan Tech's sharpshooter supreme.

The Huskies recruited Shelast from the junior `A' BCHL where he flourished for a pair of seasons with the Powell River Kings, averaging over a point a game in each campaign. In fact, in 2003-04 his 67-points including 25-goals in 58-total games led his club in both key offensive categories, adding 131-PIM. One year previously, in 2002-03, he essayed 44-points in 43-appearances on 43(22-22-44) with 50-PIM.

This will be Shelast's third tour of duty in the ECHL, having seen action in 2008-09 with the Idaho Steelheads where in 31-games in 2008-09, he authored 21-points in 31-games on 9-goals, 12-assists and 23-PIM. The IceMen latest roster addition will also bring 60-games of AHL experience to the Tri-State region, having plied his craft with the Iowa Stars and Hamilton Bulldogs in 2007-08 and 2008-09 respectively before playing 32-games with the Texas Stars in 2009-10.

Shelast's pro career totals read: 186-games; 39-goals; 47-assists; 86-points; 89-PIM.

Today's signing of right wing TYLER SHELAST increases the total to 9-players in the IceMen fold for the 2012-13 ECHL season. He joins defensemen MATT GENS, JAKE OBERMEYER, JESSE PERRIN, PHILIPPE PLANTE; centers JASON DALE, TODD ROBINSON; left wing JOSH BEAULIEU; right wing DAN GENDUR.
