Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
Broomfield, Colo. - The Rocky Mountain Rage have re-signed All-Star defenseman Tyler Butler, who becomes the first player officially under contract with the team for the upcoming 2008-09 Central Hockey League season.
Butler posted career highs across the board last season with 16 goals, 36 assists, and 52 points, setting new team records for scoring by a defenseman in all three categories. He also established a new Rage record for longest scoring streak by recording at least one point in 16 consecutive games (8g-16a-24pts), the fourth longest scoring streak in the CHL last year.
For his offensive exploits from the blue line, the Kanata, Ontario, native earned the second CHL All-Star nod of his six years as a pro. He was also an All-Star with the Amarillo Gorillas during the 2004-05 season. Butler twice helped lead the Gorillas to the Southern Conference Finals in 2003-04 and 2004-05 before playing in Germany prior to joining the Rage last season.
"Tyler provides that essential secondary scoring from the blue line that all teams need to be successful, and we're happy to have him back," said Rage Head Coach and General Manager Tracy Egeland. "He was a big part of our success last season, and I know he's motivated like everyone associated with our club by a feeling of unfinished business from last year."
"Being able to re-sign with the Rage is something I've thought about all year, and I wanted to try to get it done as quickly as possible. I feel like we have something to prove to the rest of the league," said Butler.
"There's absolutely no better place in the hockey world for me. The people in the area and in the organization have treated us so well. On and off the ice it's just been an awesome situation for my family."
Butler spends the off-season working as an assistant professional at Coal Creek Golf Course. He currently lives in Westminster with his wife, Hollie, and their daughter, Teagan.
