Tycoons Tidbits (Texas Tycoons 14-1)

January 26, 2008 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Texas Tycoons News Release

The Texas Tycoons earned two hard fought victories this weekend. Playing an independent yet aggressive schedule, the Tycoons faced the UBL's Ft Worth Falcons and a collection of American basketball stars with FIBA experience.

If the names Benny West and Reggie Griffin look familiar, both were stars in the ABA last season. Reggie Griffin was an ABA all-star in 2007 with the Waco Wranglers. Benny West, a 2007 team captain of the Texas Tycoons, has experience in the WBA, ABA and in the LNBP in Monterrey, Mexico. On Friday night, these familiar faces lead a group of formidable foes versus the Tycoons.

The Tycoons were up to the challenge, defeating the Texas Select All- Pro squad by the score of 113-98. Tyrone Rayson, Mario Kinsey and Donald Gray paced the Tycoons with 30, 29, and 22 points respectively. ABA teams not withstanding, many in the Tycoons organization left this highly contested battle with the notion that the competion faced on Friday night was the stiffest that Texas has battled this season.

Fast forward eighteen hours later. The Tycoons found themselves playing an overtime period in a seesaw war with the Ft. Worth Falcons. The Falcons are very familiar with the Tycoons on and off the floor. Several players from each squad spent their high school days honing their craft at Ft. Worth Dunbar. Dunbar High School boasts one of the top basketball programs in the country.

But on this day, the Tycoons were victorious. The third ranked team in the ABA power rankings, topped the Falcons in overtime by the score of 96-91. Tyrone Rayson continued his campaign for ABA player of the year. Rayson contributed 36 points, 16 rebounds, 3 steals and two blocked shots. Mario Kinsey and Melvin Mitchell were huge down the stretch. Kinsey added 18pts and 9 assists. Mitchell poured in 16 points, but his clutch free throw shooting sealed the victory for the Tycoons.

The Falcons were lead by Rich Gilliam. The play making point guard chipped in 21 points, 7 assists and 4 steals. The win pushes the Tycoons record to 14-1 on the season.

Tycoons Roster Update:

The Texas Tycoons have terminated the contract of power forward Jai Pradia. Tycoons' GM Michael Senters, released the forward to provide Pradia the opportunity to sign with the Dallas Defenders of the PBL. Pradia joins former Tycoons Oneal Mims (Tycoons, Jam/NBDL) and Andre Heard(Tycoons/Denmark) on the Dallas PBL franchise roster.
