Two Thunder Players Selected in 2015 Expansion Draft

December 22, 2014 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Portland Thunder News Release

PORTLAND- OL Abe Markowitz and DB Dion Turner have been assigned to the Las Vegas Outlaws as part of the 2015 AFL Expansion Draft.

Players that finished the 2014 regular season on their respective team's active roster were eligible for selection. Draft exceptions included kickers, players on "Other League Exemption", and players who signed letters of intent this off-season. Teams were allowed to protect up to 65% of their current roster following those exceptions, with the remaining 35% listed as eligible for selection by Las Vegas.

When a player was selected from their unprotected list, teams had the option to remove an additional player from draft eligibility, thus protecting them. If a team had two players selected, they were then given the option to withdraw from the proceedings completely.

The Thunder selected 9 players as a part of the 2014 Expansion Draft, including DE Antron Dillon, DB Eric Crocker, and DB Dwight McLean.

Markowitz joined the Thunder at the halfway point of the 2014 campaign, and cemented his place quickly on an offensive line that was depleted by injuries. Abe went on to start all nine games in which he played after joining in Week 12.

Turner was claimed off reassignment by the Thunder back in July, but did not report, and never played a down in a Portland uniform.

The Arena Football League closes their 2014 business calendar tomorrow with the assignment of all remaining players from the three franchises no longer under league control. The Thunder will select sixth in each round of the process.
