Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS -- The Fort Myers Miracle scored three in the eighth inning but the lead slipped away in the ninth on two home runs off closer Blair Erickson, and the Miracle lost to the Jupiter Hammerheads, 6-4.
Louis Ott led off the ninth with a solo homer to cut the score to 4-3, but the game started to turn on an accidental hit by pitch of Geraldo Valentin. After Ryan Curry pinch-ran, Tim Torres homered to left to put the Hammerheads up 5-4. They would add one more on an Osvaldo Martinez single.
The Miracle saw Mark Dolenc walk with two outs in the ninth inning and steal second, but Chris Parmelee went down looking on a changeup from lefty Daniel Jennings to end the game.
Erickson (1-5) took the loss after blowing his fifth save of the season. He gave up four earned on four hits in one inning. Santos Arias had started and gone five innings, giving up three walks and striking out five. He surrendered five hits but just one unearned run.
Wade Korpi (2-0) got the win after throwing one pitch to end a three- run eighth inning for Fort Myers. Jennings saved his sixth game for Jupiter.
Right-hander Burke Badenhop made a rehab start for the Florida Marlins. He went three and one-third with two hits, one run (unearned), one walk, and six strikeouts.
David Bromberg and Jose Rosario will battle in a marquee pitching matchup on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.
