FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The Fayetteville SwampDogs are pleased to announce the addition of Lehigh University (PA) pitcher Cory Kent and infielder Brendan McGaheran to the 2011 roster.
Kent, a 5-11, 200-pound junior right-handed pitcher, was named to the preseason National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award watch list. So far this season, Kent is 3-0 with four saves and a stellar 1.99 ERA in 10 appearances. The Wilson, PA native looks to continue his success for the Dogs during the summer season. In 2010 Kent earned second-team All-Patriot League honors while making four starts and recording nine saves in 18 appearances.
Meanwhile, McGaheran is a 5-10, 185-pound junior infielder from Nazareth, PA. He played in the Texas Collegiate League for the past two summers for the 2010 TCL Champion Victoria Generals. McGaheran is off to a fast start on the 2011 season hitting .321 with two home runs and eight doubles. McGaheran has shown his speed with 15 stolen bases on the early season.
"Cory and Brendan will provide us with experienced summer guys, who know how to compete," said SwampDogs head coach Darrell Handelsman. "I expect them to play a pivotal role in our quest for a CPL championship."
The Fayetteville SwampDogs are a member of the Coastal Plain League, entering their 11th season in the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 15th season, the Coastal Plain League features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts.
