
Two More Join Bluefish for 2016 Season

(Bridgeport, Conn.) - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signings of former big league pitcher Taylor Thompson and outfielder Ruben Sosa, Jr.
"Taylor has good big league experience on the mound and Ruben's speed will definitely help our offense," says Bluefish Manager Luis Rodriguez. "They've both been successful players in their careers so we hope they will continue that success here in the Atlantic League."
Taylor Thompson comes to Bridgeport for his eighth season of professional baseball and first in the Atlantic League. Last year, the Alabama native pitched in the Oakland Athletics organization for High-A Stockton of the California League and Triple-A Nashville of the Pacific Coast League. He made 15 combined relief appearances, striking out 18 batters in 17.1 innings. The 28-year-old began his professional career in 2009 after being drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 44th round of the MLB draft. He spent six years with the White Sox organization, making his Major League debut in 2014. In five big league games, he struck out four batters in 5.1 innings. In 204 career minor league games, Taylor owns a 19-10 record with a 2.95 ERA and 315 strikeouts in 296.1 innings.
Ruben Sosa, Jr. joins the Bluefish for his sixth season of professional baseball and first in the Atlantic League. Last year, the outfielder appeared with High-A Inland Empire of the California League and Double-A Arkansas of the Texas League, both affiliates of the Los Angeles Angels. In 63 combined games, he hit .266 with three home runs, 17 RBI, 42 runs scored, and 21 stolen bases. The 25-year-old began his professional career in 2011 after being selected by the Houston Astros in the 23rd round of the MLB draft. He played four seasons with the Astros organization, reaching the Triple-A level in both 2013 and 2014. In 2015, he joined the Los Angeles Angels organization where he reached as high as Double-A. In 339 career minor league games, Sosa Jr. owns a .261 batting average with nine home runs, 44 doubles, 116 RBI, 196 runs scored, and 107 stolen bases.
