Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs have only two home games remaining in the 2009-2010 CHL regular season: tonight against the Tulsa Oilers and tomorrow vs. the Missouri Mavericks at 7:05 pm at the CenturyTel Center. Don't miss the 'Bugs home finale as the Mudbugs celebrate the jersey retirement of former Captain Jim Sprott and "Light the Night" with the American Cancer Society.
Tonight's game pits the Mudbugs against Tulsa one last time this season, presented by Buffalo Wild Wings. The 'Bugs will look to finish the season undefeated against the Oilers tonight as they continue to gear up for the 2010 CHL playoffs, which start next week.
Tomorrow night will be a memorable one for the franchise with a number of great events, headlined by "Jim Sprott Night" and presented by Circle K. It will be a can't-miss event for any Mudbugs fan as former Captain and defenseman Jim Sprott becomes the third player in franchise history to have his jersey retired when his #33 is raised to the CenturyTel Center rafters in a very special ceremony during the first intermission. To mark the event, Jim Sprott bobblehead dolls will be handed out to the first 1,000 kids (13 and under) in the building.
An original member of the Mudbugs franchise, Sprott played seven seasons with the team and was part of all three Mudbugs President's Cup Championships. Six years after his retirement, #33 still ranks third in franchise history in games played and first in goals, assists, points and penalty minutes by a defenseman. His number will now join Dale Henry's #19 and Trevor Buchanan's #27 as the only retired numbers in Mudbugs history.
Tomorrow night will also feature a moving pre-game "Light the Night" ceremony with the American Cancer Society. Willis-Knighton Health System is providing 5,000 flashlights to be given out at the doors so all our fans can participate in the ceremony, which increases awareness and solidarity for the fight against cancer.
Additionally, the Mudbugs will wear their white warm-up jerseys during the game against the Mavericks. The jerseys will then be auctioned off live to the fans after the game with the majority of the proceeds going to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), the worldwide leader for type 1 diabetes research. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.
