Seattle Sounders FC News Release
CASA GRANDE, Ariz. - Seattle Sounders FC won its second-straight preseason match with a 2-1 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Thursday at Grande Sports World
SuperDraft pick Fabio Pereira scored in the eighth minute and trialist Kevin Parsemain added the second tally as Sounders FC improved to 2-0-0 in the 2014 preseason.
Seattle opened the scoring when Parsemain's pass in the box deflected to Chad Barrett, who poked it to Pereira in front of goal. Pereira slotted his shot to the far post to put Seattle ahead, 1-nil.
In the 17th minute, Parsemain doubled Seattle's lead. Dylan Remick won a ball at midfield and streaked down the left flank to the end line where he crossed to Parsemain at the top of the box, who finished past Vancouver keeper David Ousted.
The assist marked the second in two games for Remick. He also assisted on Obafemi Martins' second strike in Seattle's 2-1 win over the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday.
The Whitecaps pulled one goal back in the opening moments of the second half on a fantastic half-volley from Erik Hurtado. Matt Watson played a ball over the top of Hurtado, who struck the bouncing ball from outside of the box to the far corner.
Marcus Hahnemann played the full 90 minutes in goal for Sounders FC. In the 79th minute, he came off his line to slide the ball away from an onrushing Hurtado on a breakaway.
Seattle had several dangerous opportunities throughout the match. Barrett and Parsemain combined in the box in the 11th minute, but Ousted came off his line to smother the ball before Barrett could take a shot.
In the second half, Aaron Kovar swung a free kick to the far post where Dzenan Catic's bouncing header caromed off the crossbar. In the 66th minute, Andy Rose beat his defender down the left flank and found Long Tan open in the box, but his half-volley missed wide for a goal kick.
Seattle will play its third match of the 2014 preseason on Saturday evening against the Portland Timbers. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. PT at Kino Sports Complex and will be broadcast live on MLSsoccer.com and SoundersFC.com.
