Lancaster JetHawks News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - J.D. Davis and James Ramsay hit back-to-back home runs in the 10th inning to propel the JetHawks to an 8-6 win over the Bakersfield Blaze on Thursday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark.
Derek Fisher went 2-for-5 with two runs batted in for the JetHawks (38-33), and A.J. Reed and Ronnie Mitchell also collected two hits and one RBI each.
Tandem starter Kevin Comer (1-2) received the win, allowing one run on one hit over four innings of work.
With one out in the 10th inning, J.D. Davis broke a 6-6 tie with a line-drive, solo homer to left field off Blaze (26-45) reliever Emilio Pagan (2-6). James Ramsay followed with another home run, and Reymin Guduan stranded two runners in the bottom half of the inning, giving Lancaster a win to open the second half of the season.
Lancaster opened the scoring in the third inning. Mitchell hit a one-out double, and Jose Fernandez walked. Mitchell advanced on a Mott Hyde flyout to deep center field, and Fernandez moved to second on a wild pitch. Both runners scored on a Fisher single, and after a Jack Mayfield base hit, Reed plated Fisher with a single for a 3-0 JetHawks lead against Bakersfield starter Brett Ash.
Ash lasted just 2.2 innings, yielding three runs on four hits while walking two and striking out none.
The Blaze fought back in the bottom half against Edison Frias. Aaron Barbosa led off with a single, and Frias misplayed a Nelson Ward sacrifice bunt to place runners on first and second. Rayder Ascanio followed with a grounder to short, but after touching second for a forceout, Mayfield threw errantly to first base to allow two runs to score. Tyler O'Neill then hit a go-ahead, two-run homer, and Kyle Petty followed an Austin Wilson single with a RBI-triple for a 5-3 Bakersfield lead.
Lancaster tied the scored in the fourth inning on a passed ball and a Hyde RBI-groundout, then took the lead in the fifth on a Mitchell RBI-single.
The Blaze retied the score in the seventh against Comer, as a Tim Lopes leadoff single came around to score on a groundout by O'Neill.
The series continues at Sam Lynn Ballpark on Friday with first pitch scheduled for 7:45. Austin Chrismon (1-1, 4.66) will start for Lancaster, and Eddie Campbell (3-2, 6.30) will pitch for Bakersfield.
