Cedar Rapids River Kings News Release
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA : "Hawkeyes Fly Together" is a common saying throughout the Hawkeye state when it comes to discussing the black & gold. Two former Hawkeyes decided to do just that on Monday. The Titans are proud to announce the signings of former Hawkeye wide receiver/kick returner Jordan Cotton and former first team All-Big Ten defensive back B.J. Lowery.
The 6'1, 192lbs Cotton appeared in all 13 games for the Hawks in 2013. He led the team in kickoff returns with a 25.2 yard average on 29 returns, with a long of 96 yards. Cotton set Outback Bowl records for longest kickoff return (96 yards) and best kickoff return average (42.7 yards). His 96-yard kickoff return in the Outback Bowl is the longest non-scoring kickoff return in Iowa Hawkeye history. In 2012 Cotton earned first team All-Big Ten kick returner honors by CollegeSportsMadness.com and achieved the Reggie Roby Special Teams Award. The Mt. Pleasant native's brother Darian currently plays defensive back for the Iowa State Cyclones.
Lowery stands in at 5'11, 193lbs. He finished his Hawkeye career with 128 tackles, 3 interceptions, 2 interceptions for touchdowns and 3 forced fumbles. He led the Hawks with 16 pass breakups in 2013 and ranked 2nd in the Big Ten and 5th nationally averaging 1.46 pass break ups per game. B.J. was named first team All-Big Ten by league media, Sporting News, and Phil Steele. He set Iowa records with two interception returns for touchdowns against Western Michigan, covering 35 yards and 13 yards making him just the second Big Ten player with two interception return touchdowns in a game since 1998. Following graduation, the Cincinnati native signed a free agent contract with the Kansas City Chiefs.
