Louisville Fire News Release

Louisville Fire head coach Tommy Johnson knew after the Fire made it to the second round of the ArenaCup Playoffs he would have to do some work to replace players lost to the Arena Football League (AFL). Yesterday the Fire lost two players, defensive specialist Tremain Mack and offensive/defensive lineman Jason Ferguson.

Ferguson, who played in 14 games with the Fire, has signed a deal with the Dallas Desperados. In 2004 Ferguson recorded 13 total tackles on defense including five tackles for a loss and four sacks. Ferguson also had one pass break-up, seven quarterback hurries, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Ferguson drew the attention of the Desperados when former Quad City Steamwheelers head coach Rich Ingold joined the Desperados coach staff. Ferguson was in camp with the AFL's Grand Rapids Rampage in 2004.

Mack, a former NFL Pro Bowler, joined the Fire late last season and saw action in four games, has signed with the San Jose Sabercats. In 2004 Mack recorded 10.5 tackles and one pass break-up, and on special teams Mack returned three kicks for 55 yards.

"We knew after last season we were going to have to replace some talented players," said coach Johnson. "This is what these guys work for, a shot to make it to the next level, as a coach I am really proud of Jason and Tremain."

The Fire will hold an open try-out on Saturday October 30 at 9:30 A.M. and registration will begin at 8:00 A.M. The cost of the try-out will be $40 and the try-out will be for wide receivers, defensive backs, running backs and quarterbacks.
