Two D-1 Hitters Signed by Westerners

Danbury, CT- May 12, 2014: The Danbury Westerners, the longest tenured team in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, are proud to announce the signing of two hitters for the 2014 season: Hector Gutierrez and Brennan Morgan.

Hector Gutierrez (Detroit, MI) is a freshman infielder and pitcher for the University of Michigan Wolverines. A decorated athlete from Western International High School, Gutierrez was a four-time All-City honoree, a two-time All-District selection, and the seventh ranked player on MichiganBaseballProspects.com. He gained notoriety as a senior by striking out 18 hitters in a game as a senior. Gutierrez, in limited action for the Wolverines, has eight hits and four RBI. On the mound, he has a 3.38 ERA and 3 strikeouts, all while holding opposing batters to a .111 batting average.

Brennan Morgan (Peach Tree City, GA) is a sophomore catcher for the Kennesaw State University Owls. A highly regarded talent out of McIntosh High School, Morgan's hitting ability was rewarded with a nomination to the Georgia Dugout Club top 100, as well as an invitation to a high profile hitting showcase at Chase Field. Morgan is set to take the Owls' starting catcher role for soon-to-be-departing junior Max Pentecost next season. As of May 12th, Morgan has appeared in 44 games for the Owls (41 starts), hitting .248 with three home runs and 28 RBI.

On June 14th the Danbury Westerners will be hosting a pre-game festival to commemorate 20 years of summer collegiate baseball. Starting at 3:00, fans are invited to come out to Rogers Park for an afternoon of music and entertainment. The Westerners will be providing free hot dogs to all guests while supplies last.
