Cicero Cometas USA News Release

Chicago, IL. Cometas USA point guard Gilby Sanchez and forward Zack Alvidez will fly to Mexico for an opportunity to showcase their skills and earn a spot with the professional basketball league of Mexico. The Liga Nacional de Balonesto (LNBP) is the top basketball league in Mexico and is the country's equivilent to the NBA. Owner Javier Haggar, who was instrumental in securing the deal for Sanchez is seeking a replacement with a point guard from Mexico for his Cicero, IL based ABA team. Alvarez will work out for team owners and coaches to secure a roster spot. "This is professional basketball and players come and go," said GM and Head Coach M.A. Harris. "Part of our mission is to enhance players' skills and provide opportunities for hardworking players to advance their basketball careers and earning potential."

Both players will be forced to make an immediate impact. The LNPP is a very competitive league that deals players and coaches on a weekly basis. "I appreciate the opportunity playing for Cometas USA," said Sanchez. "Mr. Haggar gave me my first opportunity to play professionally for his team in Mexico and I credit him for this chance as well." If things don't work out for Gilby and Zack in Mexico, they will be welcomed back here with Cometas USA," said Haggar. For more information, visit www.abalive.com.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
