NASHVILLE - On National Sibling Day this Wednesday, millions of siblings will get the chance to share stories and messages of love for their siblings.

However, Nashville Soccer Club forward Tucker Hume might have to wait to send those messages until the end of the evening. His twin brother, Walker, has a match to play.

Walker Hume is a defender for USL Championship Western Conference club Orange County SC, and his team is taking on Tacoma Defiance on Wednesday night. Even halfway across the country, Tucker will likely be watching his brother live out his professional dreams, just like Walker would do for him on any given matchday.

"It was an unbelievable experience growing up with him," Tucker said. "It's like having your best friend with you all the time, especially playing multiple sports, always competing and going against him was a good battle and always good fun. Just being able to stay together throughout high school and college. It was an unbelievable experience playing at North Carolina together and just getting to experience all that with him made it even more special for not only us, but our family as well. Going on to the professional level and we've been on different sides of the conferences, but just watching his games and him watching me and supporting each other is a lot of fun."

The twins have played for different clubs since joining the professional ranks, and that is actually the exception rather than the rule for their careers. They played together in high school and started their collegiate careers at Rollins College together before transferring together to the University of North Carolina.

Even before that, the two trained together and helped make each other better. The training relationship was natural, as the forward Tucker could hone his skills against the defender Walker, and vice versa.

"We always would play 1v1, I would try to score and he would try to stop me and stuff," Tucker said. "That made it very difficult, and I always liked going against him in practice because he's the same size and strength and speed as me, so it was very difficult. He knew what I liked to do and things like that, so it was always a good battle."

At first glance, the untrained eye would not be able to tell Walker and Tucker apart. It has taken some time for coaches to even tell them apart. But, according to Tucker, their differences come out once you get to know them a bit.

"All the time, it was our last name sometimes," Tucker said of coaches calling him the wrong name. "Sometimes we'd both look. I've been called Walker and I still just look just because I know what they're trying to do. Once you're around us a decent amount, you'll be able to tell us from behind and stuff like that."

While Walker and Tucker have yet to face each other at the professional level, the possibility of a Hume Bowl remains in the USL Cup Final, a U.S. Open Cup match, or in some other venue later in their professional careers.

So, which brother would Mama and Papa Hume root for in a matchup between the twins?

"I don't even know," Tucker said. "They'd want a clean sheet for my brother, but they'd want goals from me. I don't know, they would just hope that we would both have fun and enjoy it and stay healthy."
